The Atlantic remains active, but there’s nothing that looks threatening to the Alabama coast.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic. Both have a chance to develop, although neither is expected to become a significant concern for the Gulf of America right now.

Tropical Wave Near the Lesser Antilles

A tropical wave, designated AL92, is located about 350 miles east of the Windward Islands.

The system is producing gusty winds along with a large area of showers and thunderstorms. However, it is moving into an environment with increasing upper-level winds and drier air, which should make development increasingly difficult.

The chance of tropical development is now just 10% through the next 48 hours and 10% through the next seven days.

Even without developing, the system could bring heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Lesser Antilles tonight and Saturday.

Second Wave in the Central Atlantic

A second tropical wave, AL94, is located more than 1,000 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Thunderstorms remain disorganized, but conditions could support some gradual development over the next few days.

The National Hurricane Center gives AL94 a 30% chance of development through 48 hours and a 40% chance through seven days.

However, stronger upper-level winds could become a limiting factor next week.
