Dangerous heat will continue across coastal Alabama over the next couple of days, with a Heat Advisory in effect Monday and an Extreme Heat Watch issued for Tuesday.
A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday for Baldwin and Mobile counties, where heat index values are expected to climb as high as 112 degrees.
Even hotter conditions are possible on Tuesday. An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening, with heat index values potentially reaching 115 degrees if current forecasts hold.
These dangerous conditions can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for those spending extended time outdoors. If you have to be outside, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned location. Try to schedule strenuous activities during the early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower.
Be sure to check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets, as they are especially vulnerable during prolonged periods of extreme heat. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short time.
If you or someone around you begins showing signs of heat stroke, including confusion, loss of consciousness, or a high body temperature, call 911 immediately. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency.
